February 3: Understanding Proportion. This week we will cover the renaissance standard methodology for mapping out the body on the page. We will talk about learning to recognize what our brains prioritize and how it can impact what we think we see versus what we actually see. After discussing proportion, we will work with rapid poses to warm up before gradually moving into longer poses as we adjust our eye to better see and map the body on the page.

February 10: Weight and Space. In the second week we will talk about how a body can be shown to occupy weight and space in a way that most accurately reflects reality. We will discuss plumb lines and the effect of gravity on position, then move on to look at how line weight can suggest heavier and lighter parts of the body.

February 17: Heads and Faces. Everyone's biggest concern, our third week will be dedicated to making facial features onto the skull and understanding the mechanics and geometry of the face. Time allowing, we will give some time over to feet and hands as well.

February 24: Fabric and Drapery. Since most of the figures we actually draw are clothed, our final week will be given over to learning to draw fabric or clothes over the body in a way that is faithful to reality and respects the weight and volume of the body beneath those clothes. We will also have a brief final critique where students can bring a few of their favorite drawings to discuss.
