WATERCOLOR MATERIALS AND METHODS — A TWO-PART SERIES
FRIDAY, April 4, and FRIDAY, April 11
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
INSTRUCTOR: Betty Oliver
MEDIUM: Watercolor
Perfect for the novice watercolorist, this thoughtful introduction to the medium begins with a demonstration of materials: which paper to buy, which paints to purchase, and how to hold and use brushes. The class progresses to explain why watercolor, a “light” or transparent painting method, doesn’t use white or black pigments. Finally, students receive an introduction to drawing thumbnail sketches, applying underpainting, using wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet techniques to create washes and glazes, altering painting with lifting, scratching, spraying, and more.
If you have never painted in watercolor before, this class serves as a beneficial primer for Deborah Jinkins’ World of Watercolor.
COST: $70 GVA Member / $80 Non-Member
Materials included. However, if you have watercolor materials, bring them for review and discussion.
