SPANISH STORYTIME AND CRAFTS

AGES: up to 4 years old + parent

MAX CLASS SIZE: 10 children (includes 1 adult per child)

Come to toddler “Mami y yo” (Mommy and Me) time, geared toward families of young children up to age 4 who will enjoy being introduced to the Spanish language through story time, singing, and a fun art activity.

This will be a great chance to get to spend quality time with your child, and learn a new language at the same time! Win, win fun!

All children have the ability to learn multiple languages, even children with delayed development or with different abilities.

Please be sure your child has a smock or clothing that is appropriate for using around paint and glue.

SCHEDULE

October 1
Besos For Baby
Paint a tree using black and white paint. While it dries, make 2 red cardinals using pre-cut shapes. Add details with a black sharpie. Add googly eyes. Glue them facing together so they are “kissing” and add a pre-cut heart on top.

October 15
Puedo Jugar Yo También
Use a paper plate and cut a concentric curved line and then use a string to make it like a puppet. Decorate using dot paints and add googly eyes. If time allows, have kids play ball with their snakes. Use a light weight plastic ball.

October 22
Harold y el Lapiz Morado
Give each family a long piece of purple yarn, have them dip the yarn in glue mixed with a little water.Create a shape using the yarn and leave to dry on a flat surface lined with wax paper. Add a small pre-cut shape of a purple crayon on top of the design.

October 29
Dot
Using Fall colors such as; orange, yellow and red tempera, parents and children will paint a styrofoam plate base and then print it on an orange, yellow or brown paper. Add stem and leaves to pumpkins.

November 5
Oso Pardo Que Ves Ahi?
Create a Pez Dorado - (a golden fish). Have a precut or pre drawn shape of a fish. Use a celery stick cut in half to dip into golden tempera paint to print shapes of scales on the fish. Use google eye to glue on face of fish.

November 12
Si le das una Galletita a un Raton
Create a Chocolate Cookie. Paint a paper plate with brown tempera paint, and black tempers for the dots of chocolate cookie.
Have real chocolate chip cookies to share with families at the end of class.

November 19
Los Animales en Otoño Animals in Fall
Decorate a Squirrel paper cutout using fall tempera paint colors. Glue squirrel shape on large Fall color construction paper and clue pre cut fall leaf shapes around paper to create a nice frame.

December 3
8 Animals on the Town
Create a maraca using plastic eggs and 2 plastic spoons. Put dry beans inside each egg, then cradle the egg with 2 plastic spoons and use colorful tape to keep together.

December 10
Un Día De Nieve

Children will make a snowman using “snow paint”. Paint 3 circles on top of each other using “snow paint” to create the snowman use-pre cut construction paper shapes to decorate snowman with eyes, hat, scarf, and buttons

All materials provided, including special clay specific for sculptures.

KIDS’ CLAY - HANDBUILDING Ages: 6 - 9

SATURDAYS
10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

INSTRUCTOR: Raye Tobin

MEDIUM: Clay

Kids will receive a basic understanding of clay and sound hand building techniques. Weekly projects will include coil, slab, proper joinery, shaping, texture, and surface treatments. Typically, glaze colors will be applied by the students.  Students will also be taught care of tools and work area for a safe studio experience. Bring a hand towel and prepare to get a little muddy!

No experience necessary.

COST: $165 GVA Member / $187 Non-Member (No Drop-Ins)
All materials (clay & tools) included.
