MEDIUM: Printmaking

February 28: Subtractive Monotype: Create shapes & Textures in Monochromatic images by wiping out images. Textures are created with rags or paper pushed into ink.

March 6: Additive Monotype: Painting your image with brushes or any tool you choose using a palette of your choice. This is built up more like a regular painting.

The term for adding ink to a clean plate to make an image, as in painting on canvas the transfers the image to a paper. In Additive monotyoe, the artist adds ink to a plate or surface to create an image. The image is painted onto the plate using brushes, rags, sticks or other tools.

In contrast, subtractive monotyoe involves removing ink from a plate or surface to create an image. The artist paints or draws on a smooth surface, such as a plate or a sheet of glass, and then wipes away parts of the image to create a negative space. The plate is then pressed onto paper, creating a unique print that cannot be replicated.
