Basic hand building skills and basic glazing techniques will be taught.  Those who have taken previous classes with some clay experience are welcome! There will be clear techniques and demonstrations, starting with pinch pots, working with slabs and coils. Students will have opportunities to use the techniques learned and explore their own creativity, producing personal expressions in clay...functional and nonfunctional.

Instruction will include how to cut clay from the bag, prepare it for running slabs, and how to safely use the slab roller.  The importance of “work wet, clean wet” will be emphasized along with general studio courtesy and safety.  The cycle of a clay piece from wet to dry will be discussed, when to dry slowly, clay shrinkage and the fragility of bone dry clay pieces, as well as recycling clay.  The glazing class will include a handout explaining proper handling of bisque ware, waxing, glazing and cleanup. 

Cost: $195 GVA Member / $225 Non-Member
Fee covers 6 classes. Clay is sold separately for $35 plus tax, which includes both glazing and firing.
