Expand your skills by learning about and how to use pastels.
Melinda Ward will take you through the following steps:
• The background of pastels - where and when did they originate.
• What masters used pastels.
• How are pastels created and what are the types of pastels.
• Why some brands are better than others.
• What are the best papers which pastels paint on and alternatives.
• Additional tools that can be used with pastels and the techniques to use them.
• How do we compose a painting and blocking in shapes.
A photo of a seascape will be provided as a reference. Melinda will show you how to use soft pastels to create your own version of the scene.
Supply List
I recommend the Faber-Castell® Creative Studio 48 Color Soft Pastel Set stick set. Available at Michaels, online or in store.
White Artist Tape 3/4” wide, available at Michaels. Make sure it is artist tape.
12 x 16 or larger Art Board - Needs to be sturdy to put on an easel 11'' x 14''
Richeson Half stick sampler set available online at Michaels or Blicks.
I highly recommend these to get an idea of soft, medium and hard pastels. Not required.
Pastel Paper
I will have sanded paper which can be purchased for $3 for a 9’’ x 12’’sheet. I recommend this for a good learning experience.
