SPANISH STORYTIME AND CRAFTS

MAX CLASS SIZE: 10 children (includes 1 adult per child)
Come to toddler “Mami y yo” (Mommy and Me) time, geared toward families of young children up to age 4 who will enjoy being introduced to the Spanish language through story time, singing, and a fun art activity.
This will be a great chance to get to spend quality time with your child, and learn a new language at the same time! Win, win fun!
All children have the ability to learn multiple languages, even children with delayed development or with different abilities.
SCHEDULE
December 10
Un Día De Nieve
Children will make a snowman using “snow paint”. Paint 3 circles on top of each other using “snow paint” to create the snowman use-pre cut construction paper shapes to decorate snowman with eyes, hat, scarf, and buttons
January 7
Maria Had a Little Llama/ Maria Tenia una Llama
Families receive a pre-cut llama shape and will glue on cotton balls to mimic the fur. They will also add a pattern paper to place on top of the body of the llama for the blanket.
January 14
Good Night Moon/Buenas Noches Luna
Families will use blue and white tempera paint to create a night sky on square blue construction paper. The they will glue the full moon on the sky using pre-cut paper. Then they will glue the square sky paper on a large green construction piece of paper. Lastly they will glue red construction paper stripes to make the frame of the window.
January 21
Mi Amigo Esta Triste/ My Friend is Sad
Families will make a happy face using paint on a paper plate. They will glue eyes, nose, happy smile using scrap paper and glue. We will add yarn for hair.
January 28
El Canguro Tiene Mama/Does a Kangaroo Have a Mother Too?
Families will make a mother penguin with a baby. Since it is winter, families will create a winter sky using black construction paper and white paint for the snow. Using pre-cut color paper shapes for the mom and baby penguin, families will add details for the body using black and white tempera. Once they’ve added color to the penguins they will glue eyes and beak and then glue the penguins on the winter sky paper.
All materials provided, including special clay specific for sculptures.

Miss Mili Mendola is a Native Spanish speaker born in Peru, South America, and is a newcomer to St. Simon’s Island where she resides with her husband, and son, who is a Senior at Frederica Academy. They also spend their time attending their four dogs walking them around this beautiful island!
Mili is a member of Glynn Visual Art center where she has taken several clay building classes. She also paints pet portraits and other subjects by commission. She is a former art teacher with 25 years experience teaching in Public and Private elementary schools of Florida and South Carolina, and also has experience teaching Spanish to grades K-8. Since moving to Georgia, she has been very involved with homeschool families in our area, and is really loving this aspect of her life!
