Intro to Pottery Wheel
Pottery: Wheel Throwing
July 7 - 11
10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
INSTRUCTOR: Deborah Karwisch
Ages: 12-14 (Middle School Students)
Get muddy! In this fun-yet-focused pottery camp, kids learn the basics of making pots on the wheel in the GVA Pottery Studio. Only 5 seats are available, so sign up early.
Centering and shaping a cylinder on the pottery wheel is a challenging skill — this immersive week-long session is designed for success. Professional potter Deborah Karwisch will provide demonstrations and then individual attention to students throughout the week.
Students learn this process to make pottery along with how to care for the wheel, tools, and the work area. General rules for courtesy and safety in the studio are also part of the curriculum. Finished projects will be ready for pick up two-to-three weeks following the class.
A beginner’s basic 8-piece tool kit and an old towel are required. (Amazon, Hobby Lobby, or Michael’s carries the tool kit.) Kids should wear clothes that can get muddy.
Students should bring a lunch or snack and a water bottle.
